A lot of the mystery involved in "Which Volume Is It?" at Overstock.com has evaporated since they have started to post pictures of the books. I bought all of the Spirit, JLA, Plastic Man, Worlds Finest and Wonder Woman volumes there successfully just by using unique catalog numbers. Now pictures are posted for all of those series except Wonder Woman, so that should help.

Here are the additional items that I can provide:

#792236 Batman (Alvin Schwartz) is Batman V5
#822890 Superman is Superman V5
#811519 is Shazam V3

The more expensive Wonder Woman (Bob Kahan) is Wonder Woman V1. I got Wonder Woman V2 and V3 in the same shipment so I cannot tell you what their individual catalog numbers are.

I assume that the Shazam Archive listed as Simon/Kirby HAS to be Shazam V2. I already owned it, so I did not order it from Overstock.com.

I recently ordered Superman #846550 which I am assuming is Superman V4 -- it has shipped so I will confirm that in the next few days.

NOW, does anyone have any All Star Comics archives catalog numbers they can share with me? I already own V8, so I am reluctant to order any of the four listed on Overstock.com until I get some specific information that would tell me they are not V8. The only one that has a picture is V1 and I may hold out for a $19.99 DC intro special on that one.....

The Overstock.com shipment arrived today, and I can confirm that #846550 is indeed, Superman Archives V4.

Anybody have any guidance/experience with those All Star Comics Acrhives order numbers???

btw, there are Overstock coupons online which give discounts $5-10 depending on how much you spend. E.g. there's a coupon which gives you $10 off for purchases above $100, so instead of buying all your archives at one go, grouping them into 4-book lots means each book is only around $26 inclusive of shipping. Overstock limits one coupon to each user account, but this can be overcome easily by creating new email accounts. But hurry, offer ends 30 Apr.

Golden Age Spectre V1 just showed up on Overstock.com for $27.99. I cancelled my Amazon.com pre-order (which still hadn't shipped) and jumped on this bargain. I also ordered GA Green Lantern 1 & 2, Batman 4 and Superman in Action 1 & 2.

Most of the archives are now offered. In fact the only ones that I haven't seen are Aquaman, Batman 1&2, Batman in WF, any of the Dark Knight volumes, Shazam 1 and one of the Tor volumes. In addition not all of the All Stars and Legions are on there, but without Volume/creator info on those, you can't tell which ones.

Still, having 70+ of the 91 archives available at most times for $27.99 or $33.99 is pretty good....

Did any overseas collectors try douwantit.com? It is a company allowing you to shop from several online shops at once (like amazon and Overstock.com), having everything sent as one shipment (as far as I understood).

Looks good so far, but they are charging about $20-25 per item in shipping and handling. This sounds so expensive that I am wondering if I did something wrong. Does anyone have any input on this?

Had my first experience with overstock.com and thought I would share.

On April 24th, I ordered 7 volumes of the Spirit Archives for under $200. Today, April 28th, I received my order.

As I expected, the box was smashed, as is always the case when I receive something through the USPS. I blame the post office for that, not overstock.com.

The box was half opened due to the fact that it was poorly taped shut. If someone wanted to, they could have easily pulled the contents out. Only 6 of the 7 books were inside, but that matched the invoice, so I assume the 7th is coming separately. The packing material was minimal, just some paper stuffed around the sides, which did little to protect the books within.

Four of the six books have minor damage. Corners are mildly worn or banged up, and one book has a small tear in its dust cover.

That said, I am very satisfied with the trade off between cost and condition. I currently get a 20% discount at my shop, so the 25 volumes of Spirit Archives would have eventually ended up costing me $1000. Through overstock.com, it'll come out to around $700. A few dings and scratches are a small price to pay to save $300.

Unless you absolutely have to have your Archives in pristine condition, I would recommend overstock.com.

hey!

i just wanted to share my good experience with overstock.com, thanks to y'all here.

first, thanks to everyone for mentioning the site.

second, the legion archives are woefully lacking in information. i took a risk that the five separate archives i found listed were, in fact, five separate archives. (it was only after i ordered them that i saw the post saying that two different ids number does not necessarily mean two different archives).

anyway, i took the risk and ordered 5 legion archives for a grand total of $153. the shipment, which i had been tracking thanks to their handy tracker, arrived yesterday.

the box was sturdy and all the archives were in their original shrink wrap. thankfully, all 5 archives were unique -- 1, 6, 7, 9 and 10.

it's such a crappy week of comics for me that tomorrow, i'll probably buy legion archives 2 and 3 at midtown comics.

thanks, y'all!

gus

flash: exactly. we compare you to g'nort.

Looks like Overstock is becoming the place to order Archives. I've received 2 orders so far. All have been in pristine shape, both HC and TPBs. The Archives have been shrinkwrapped.

Here's the rundown on item numbers from Overstock pulled from the posts and I added my recent orders.

#792236 Batman V5
#822890 Superman V5
#811519 Shazam V3
#846550 Superman V4
#610984 Green Lantern Archives V3
#598107 Doom Patrol Archives V1

Anyone have anymore to add?

It's the place for Archives, that's for sure. I could never pay $50 for one of those. Could hardly believe ny eyes when it said $27.99. Have only ordered one so far but it was in great condition and shrink wrapped. It's true that the USPS is pretty crappy. I had ordered a couple other books along with the DC book and I heard my mail man just carelessly drop the box. Imagine the savings, though! Run, don't walk, right now!!

I suggest that those of us who ordered books from overstock.com make use of their "Write a Review" feature to benefit future purchasers. I submitted info for seven of the Spirit Archives (although it'll still take a few days for it to actually show up). I included the book title, volume number, contents, and rating.

OK. I just went for it. I ordered Blackhawk, Enemy Ace and World's Finest #1. The only one I'm nervous about is WF#1 because I already own #2.

I got WF #1 from Overstock and it was the first edition with the errata sticker inside the shrinkwrap.

I ordered the first Spirit Archive and it just arrived today, and I ordered it less than a week ago! It was still shrink wrapped and in GREAT condition. I couldnt be more satisfied. I ordered Atom #1, Golden Age Flash #1, and New Teen Titans #1 a couple days after the Spirit, so we'll see how they handle big orders. Thanks for the site recommendation, this place has got some great deals!

I just got my Spectre and JLA volume 3 yesterday. They shipped fine, and pretty quick considering how cheap shipping was.

It looks like you can at least go by the JLA cover pictures for the volumes. They seem to be accurate.

I'm sold!!! Overstock beats e-bay hands down! All three books arrived yesterday (5/8) in perfect shape. The WF archive was the one pictured. I got three archives for less than $90 in 8 days.
